Intensive Outpatient Program for Addiction Recovery

We at Maryland Behavioral Health recognize that recovery is a process that demands support, structure, and flexibility. Our (IOP) is carefully crafted for adults with addictions who require intensive treatment but must remain involved to meet work, family, and personal obligations.

Our adult intensive outpatient program provides a closely supervised treatment setting where our clients are able to acquire useful recovery skills and receive expert guidance without having to make changes in their daily lives outside of treatment.

What Is an
Intensive Outpatient Program?

An intensive outpatient program is a step-down level of treatment for individuals who require less than 24/7 monitoring but still require frequent clinical care. This model of treatment is less restrictive than hospitalization and more structured than weekly outpatient therapy.

Perfect for individuals moving from inpatient or partial hospitalization, our IOP deals with substance abuse and co-occurring mental illness. Treatment is received a few days per week, with appointments taking place during the day or evening to fit around life outside the treatment center.

Who Should
Apply For Our IOP?

Our intensive outpatient program, alcohol and drug addiction, and mental health programs treat adults who:

  • Just finished detox or inpatient treatment and require ongoing treatment
  • Require repeated therapeutic therapy short of hospitalization
  • Find it difficult to achieve and sustain sobriety in the less structured environment of an outpatient program
  • Are afflicted with co-occurring mental illness such as depression, anxiety, or trauma
  • Would rather start the process of recovery while continuing to be actively engaged in life in the community

All patients are assessed by our staff for clinical and history needs to determine if the IOP is the best level of care.

What Our Program Offers?

Our behavioral health intensive outpatient program for adults offers a balanced recovery journey with social, emotional, and clinical treatment. Every patient has a customized treatment plan, which can involve:

Our IOP generally attends 3 to 5 times weekly for a couple of hours per session. Our clients are encouraged to remain active while also practicing the skills they learn within our program and applying them in real-life situations outside our program.
